There were some very good scores returned in the second leg of the Streatham Trophy, this winter-long competition where 42 points would not be enough to figure on the leader-board, writes George Carr.
Three teams carded 45 points and first among these were Mervyn Baker and Bob Welsman (aboard his trusty buggy) who claimed top spot and ££22.00 sweep money.
On the same score, Moray Bosence and Will Hastie, who both hit the ball so far it hardly seems fair to the rest of us, had to settle for second place on count-back and sweep money of £13.00.
Sadly for Derek Platten and Carl Sheehan, their 45 points brought them only third spot and sweep money hardly worth mentioning - very well played to you all!
The top three in the Streatham League Table feature only one of the above pairings. Will Hastie and Moray Bosence share first place with Simon Knowles and Craig Melluish on 87 points whilst some big guns lurk close behind in the form of Neil Faulkner and Paddy Tallon on 83 and Bob Welsman and Merve Baker on the same score.
Streatham champion’s for the past three years, Martin White and Bob Webber languish on 80 points and must look to their laurels.
In the first leg I intimated the champions were keeping their powder dry - I do hope it hasn’t got damp!
