Uplowman are crowned Honiton Netball Summer League champions

There was an exciting conclusion to the latest round of matches played in the Honiton Netball Summer League, writes Graham Ingram.

Undoubtedly the game of the night was the last one featuring title hopefuls Uplowman and Flamingos with both needing to win!

Uplowman entered the game with a 100 per cent record and a superior goal difference whilst Flamingos had already lost one game and drawn another.

Uplowman also started with an 18-2 advantage, but as it transpired that was unnecessary as they dominated Flamingos, who, despite great work in defence from Katie Marsh were on the receiving end of an Andrea Britten dominated Uplowman display resulting in a 65-29 win and producing the only game so far where the losing team did not score enough goals to gain a point.

This means that Uplowman are champions and Flamingos have to win their last game against Signs South West to finish second.

Signs South West moved into second place on goal difference thanks to a very slender one goal win against Hi Q.

At quarter time SSW led by 26-25 and with Rowan Williams playing well they extended the lead to 34-29 at halfway.

Hi Q, with Kerri Callon playing well fought back to level the score at 37-37 going into the final period where the game swung back and forth with Signs just nicking it by 43-42.

After losing their six opening games Howden Hawks finished their season with table-topping form with a draw and three wins, their final game being a win over Pixies by 69-59.

With Rowan Bradford playing well it was Hawks who led from the start and despite good play from Sara Pearce for Pixies they could not get on terms and dropped to fourth place whilst Hawks moved up to eighth.

Tip top Trees have had mixed fortunes but finished their campaign with a win against Blackdown Ladies.

With Nicki Snell having another good game for the Ladies they held the lead until half way at 49-46. With Jenny Robinson once again in fine form Tip Top Trees gained control in the third quarter to lead 58-53 before ending the game with a 64-57 victory.
