After his storming record for the East Devon Way a few weeks ago, Patrick Devine-Wright decided to up the ante and do the full East Devon Round on Sunday, linking the two ends of the EDW with the coast path into a 70-mile circuit - that’s more than three Grizzlies back-to-back, writes Dave Mutter.

As far as we know, the feat was has only previously been completed by Sidmouth runners John Keast and Don Cawthera three years ago in 20 hours then by Garry Perratt a year later in 18 hours.

The route was very slightly different with closure of the Undercliff forcing a (longer) diversion via Rousdon but the new route on Woodbury Common being slightly shorter and much nicer.

With support from Garry, Amy Greenhalgh, Phil Bayliss, James Jackson, Robin Carter, Tim Lenton, his son Alfie and assorted hashers, he set a blistering pace from the start and, while slowing a bit in the second half, still blasted round in a truly astonishing 11 hours and 39 minutes.

He even completed East Devon Way time in the second-fastest time we know of, 6:31.

A dip in the sea followed by Guinness, fish and chips rounded off a wonderful day out.
