With the Restricted race having already been divided, the committee have organised an earlier start time of 11.30am.

Stags sponsor the hunt members’ race which heads up the action.

For The Staff is now with the in-form Robert Chanin yard, having previously won the mixed open here in 2012, that day making virtually all coming home three lengths ahead of Ned The Post; he should enjoy the ground and looks the one to beat, having only been denied once in three Point outings, and the trainer is firing out plenty of winners.

Un Ami is a major contender in the first division of the restricted race. Having won his maiden at Larkhill for young jockey Chester Williams the partnership must be respected.

The Chloe Roddick-trained rangy Romassor should find this course more to his liking than the tighter corners at Wadebridge where he won his maiden in December.

The second division of the restricted could see the Welsh raider/trainer David Brace take the spoils back to Wales with Dbobe, but the horse is far from a straight forward ride, having dumped his jockey Bradley Gibbs twice.

Another entry, Glenwood Present from the Tanya Taylor team looks to be a safer bet, having only been headed in the final 50 yards at Wadebridge in December, finishing a length third to winner Lightening Jack.

Family of the late John Pearcey and Matford Landrover sponsor the mixed open, in which Cheltenham-bound Kirkleigh could start his seasonal campaign for owner Sue Trump. Kirkleigh finished last season’s Pointing with a win at Little Windsor in a men’s open a neck ahead of Bellsinni Ron.

In the Exeter Racecourse sponsored intermediate, one to note is the Welsh raider Waddington Hero from the Lee Power yard, a dual Irish Point winner who finished second behind Tachbury at Black Forest Lodge when well fancied.

In the Dodson and Horrell PPORA Club members’ novice riders’ race Barneys Mate trained by Richard Barber has 21 wins to his credit, and although now 14 years of age is a true schoolmaster.

This season could see Barber’s grandson Christopher get the leg up.

The Fillies and Mares’ race is sponsored by The Hartnell Hotel, Bolham and The Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

The prolific winning mare Lucette Annie could start her seasonal campaign, and would look sure to go favourite with ten wins to her credit including seven Opens, including the £1000 winners only race at Buckfastleigh for owner Janet Humphrey.

In the first division of the open maiden, sponsored by The Mount Pleasant Inn, Normansland, a suggestion would be The Drinkmeister who ran well under Sam Drinkwater, finishing two lengths second behind Mr McGregor on heavy ground at Chaddesley Corbett in December.

Friends of the Late Robin Barwell sponsor the second division of the open maiden in which Go On Henry under jockey Josh Guerriero and out of the Keith Cumings yard could follow up on his second to Flan The Man at Larkhill earlier this month.

The course offers excellent viewing, bar, bookies, hot refreshments and numerous trade stands.

Entrance is £20 per car, £10 car and single occupant.

The course is situated three miles NE of Wellington on B3187. Postcode TA21 OQU
