Easter will feature more than just painted eggs as artists flock to a biannual exhibition in Branscombe.

Graham and Hilary Walford-Howell are calling for Devon’s painters, sketchers and the like to contribute work to this year’s charity display, which they hope will fill the village hall.

The exhibition has been running since the 1960s, and has raised many thousands of pounds for charities in the area since the couple took over in 2000.

They said: “The event has proved to be both highly successful and popular not only as a means for local artists to exhibit and sell their work, but also to raise money for local charities.”

The Branscombe Art Exhibition attracts professionals and amateurs alike, and has seen the work of hobby painters stand alongside that of Michael Morgan and Tina Stokes.

This year the beneficiaries are Hospiscare South West, Seaton League of Friends, as well as Branscombe Primary School and other organisations.

Devon Air Ambulance, Branscombe Youth Club, Children’s Hospice South West and Sidmouth Living with Cancer have all received a cut in the past.

Graham said: “The Branscombe Art Exhibition has built a reputation as a showcase of attractive works of art at affordable prices and is well patronised by visitors and local people alike over this busy holiday period.”

He hopes to match the success of 2010’s exhibition, in which more than 100 artists contribute around 400 drawings and paintings, all of which were for sale.

The hanging fee is only £8 per piece, and 20 per cent of all sales will go to charity.

Entry forms, which should be returned by the end of February, are available by contacting Graham and Hilary on 01297 680273.

The exhibition runs from Good Friday (March 28) until Easter Monday (April 1), when entrance will be 50 pence for adults or free for children.
