This year’s Budleigh Salterton Jazz Festival is fast approaching.

Running from Friday, April 21, to Sunday, April 23, at the Public Hall, there’s a strong South West flavour to the proceedings, with some well-established players and talented up-and-comers, alongside musicians from around the UK.

The festival opens at 7.30pm on Friday, April 21, with the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra Bands 1 and 2.

At 2pm on Saturday, April 22, there’s the Matt Carter Organ Trio, followed, at 3.33pm, by the Annika Skoogh Quartet. Annika is a local vocalist with a growing reputation within the South West jazz scene.

At 6pm, there’s music from the Alex Warren Trio. Alex – a Budleigh-based tenor saxophonist – will lead a trio of young jazz players aiming to take the music back to its roots.

At 8pm, the Bateman Brothers (Alan on trumpet, and Ian on trombone) will lead a tribute to Louis Armstrong and His Allstars. The concert also features Maggie Reeday on vocals.

On Sunday, April 23, there’s the Julian Piper Blues Band (2pm), followed by the Milverton Legacy Band (3.30pm), Helen Rimmer Quartet (6pm) and Jazz at the Philhamonic Remembered (7.30pm).

Tickets include a weekend stroller (£110 up to concert opening) giving entry to all nine concerts; a two-day stroller (£95) for all concerts on Saturday or Sunday, and a one-day stroller (£45) for all concerts on either Saturday or Sunday. Tickets for individual concerts, priced from £10, are also available and seating is unreserved. Available from Budleigh Tourist Information Centre (01395 445275) or info@visitbudleigh.com.
