For the first of the new monthly Guest Nights, Jurassic Folk is very privileged to have secured an artist of the international calibre of Tim Van Eyken.
After three years away from the folk scene while pursuing a career in acting, Tim makes a long awaited return.
He first came to prominence as the winner of the first ever BBC Young Folk Awards more than 10 years ago and, since then, was a member of various acclaimed groups such as Dr Faustus and Waterson:Carthy.
With a new group, simply called Tim van Eyken, he produced the award-winning album Stiffs Lovers Holymen Thieves.
He was then lured away by the offer of the major role of “Songman” in the first stage production of War Horse, the runaway success of the decade, and he continued on the next year in the second production.
He then decided he wanted to become as proficient in this acting lark as he was in folk music and embarked upon a two-year stint at drama school.
Now, at last, he is back to his roots singing and playing better than ever. As this is written his website, www.timvaneyken.com is awaiting an update, but you can hear some of the great tracks from the CD mentioned above at http://www.myspace.com/timvaneyken
Tim Van Eyken’s return has been eagerly awaited by his many fans in the South West, and advance booking is advisable. Tickets at the advance price of £5 can be bought at the online shop on the East Devon Folk website: On the door price, if any still available, will be £6.
He will be performing on Thursday, February 9, at 8pm at the Grove, Seaton. For more details telephone 01297 20064 or visit www.midweekherald.co.uk and click on the link.
