Ottery St Mary's walking football team are inviting new members aged 55 and over to join them.

The 'Ottery Trotters' meet at 6.30pm every Tuesday at the LED centre. Ottery St Mary FC have given permission for the Trotters to use their club badges on the kits, and there will soon be a discussion between the Otters and the Trotters about creating closer ties with each other and the community.

Chairman of the Ottery Trotters, 'Dagenham' Dave Kerr, said: "The ‘Ottery Trotters’ may have long since seen their prime but beneath the wrinkles, beer bellies and smell of Deep Heat beats the hearts of lions! That would be lions with stents and pacemakers of course. Obviously, I jest, as the spirit of 1966 flows in the blood of these players; with many of them remembering where they actually were during England’s finest hour.

"Walking Football was devised to keep the football flame alive in older players and contains rules such as no running (like we could anyway), no physical contact and the obligation to play with a smile around the dentures."

The Trotters are sponsored by Axion, a company making TENS machines which give pain relief via a low-voltage electrical current.

Anyone hose interested in joining the Trotters should contact 'Dagenham' Dave on 07564 374489.
