Children at Sidmouth Primary School have received an ‘exciting’ new selection of books to read, thanks to money donated by members of the public.

Last summer the school’s PTFA asked for contributions to a fundraising appeal to replace the old books in their school library with new ones that would inspire the children to read.

A total of £940 was raised, enabling the school to take out a subscription that will provide a regular delivery of books for the library, comprising fiction and non-fiction titles by a wide range of authors.

Mr Weir, assistant head and Year 3 and 4 lead at Sidmouth Primary, said: "We are extremely grateful for the generous contribution from our brilliant community for our selection of new books. This will have a really positive impact with our children to develop a love for reading. We will receive a box of brand new books every term, featuring a selection of the best new titles published in recent months.

"Our Year 6 librarians were very excited to be able to get their hands on the books first so that they can start recommending them to the rest of the school! We also received a number of new posters and stickers for our library at Woolbrook Road to enhance our reading environment."

He said the staff and children want to send out ‘a very big thank you’ to all who supported their book fundraiser.
