A goal from youngster Jake Haggerty was enough to earn Ottery St Mary a 1-1 draw in their opening game against Feniton in the Devon Football League.
A mixture of youth and experience is on the football menu for Ottery this season and they will return to DFL action with a visit from local rivals Budleigh Salterton on September 24.
However, it has been a tough start to the Premier Division campaign in the Devon & Exeter League for Ottery 2nds, as they currently sit bottom after three straight defeats against Colyton, Sidmouth Town 2nds and Crediton United 2nds.
Ottery are on the road to Alphington this weekend and a tough challenge awaits against a side with two wins so far this season. It is then a trip to Lyme Regis on September 24 before ending the month with a Friday night visit from Elmore 2nds.
