Sidmouth Town will host Okehampton Argyle in the last 16 of the Walter C Parson Cup after coming from behind to defeat local rivals Honiton Town.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the first period and the Vikings were left feeling a little aggrieved when Honiton snatched a fortuitous lead on 38 minutes, a cross from Lewis Couch looping over the home goalkeeper to nestle in the Sidmouth net.

The Vikings regrouped at the interval and grabbed an equaliser when a terrific free-kick routine worked perfectly to bamboozle the Hippos, Danny Pym slipping a clever down the side of the wall for Jamie Chamberlain to pivot sharply and rifle home an emphatic finish off the underside of the bar.

Both sides gave everything in a pulsating final half-hour and the contest was a credit to the competition. Sidmouth were the side to prevail, snatching victory seven minutes from time with a brilliant goal from Jamie Fanson, spearing a 25-yard rocket into the top corner.

Sidmouth Herald:

It is another East Devon derby for the Vikings this weekend, as they welcome the Tigers of Axminster in the Peninsula League.

The positive football vibes also extended to Ottery St Mary, who secured their first league victory of the season with a battling 2-1 success at Feniton in the Devon Football League.

The game was heading for a draw, with a Nathan Hopkins goal for the Otters matched by a Sam Brook strike for hosts Feniton. A missed penalty and disallowed goal must have felt like it was not to be for Ottery, but they dug deep and Connor Swingler won it with four minutes remaining.

The victory moved Ottery into a relatively comfortable mid-table position and a big opportunity to build on the success when Thorverton visit Washbrook Meadows on Saturday.
