Sidmouth U18 Girls are the champions of Devon are defeating Kingsbridge / Paignton 32-15 in a tremendous final.

Captain Annabelle Bird, Amber Spence, Lottie Reid, Abi Alner and Tilly Board Medley did a great job upfront, winning their ball and at least half the opposition ball in the set-pieces.

This created a great platform for scrum half Ellie Monro Higgs to feed the back line, which were an almost continuous threat to the opposition. Centres Fi Nairne Clark and Rosie Tidball ran straight and tested their opposite numbers, with Rosie getting a superb five tries.

Wingers Charlotte Austen- Rigby and Charlotte Starr made some great runs being brought down just short of the line. Sidmouth’s sixth try went to great support play by Tilly Board Medley and Abi Alner got the extra two points to give Sidmouth victory 32-15.

Aaron Patch, Women and Girls Director, said: “It was a hard-fought game and Sidmouth had no subs. With that being said, the girls’ defence was solid with some great tackles, some powerful runs and break away tries. A great game and win to bring home. Well done to our winners.”

In a further celebration for the club, Ellie Wood has been selected in the England U18 Girls’ squad for a Six Nations festival, an amazing achievement for Ellie and Sidmouth RFC.

The U12 Girls and U14 Girls travelled to Kingsbridge, and the U14s ran in a couple of beautiful team tries in the last quarter of the game, while the U12 Girls put together a wonderful try.

Lizzie Huntwood drove hard from her own half, with four opposition players hanging off her, she drove through and found space. Being caught by great defence by Kingsbridge, she passed off to Elsie Dapling who made a great pass to Lily Vanstone to score in the corner.

The U9’s travelled to Cullompton to play in a festival. Head coach Luke Knight said: “The tournament format shows how all the kids have developed over the season with some brilliant individual skill, dominant defensive displays and wonderful multi-phase team tries.”

The U10’s travelled to Honiton and coach Claire Housden said: ”The best communication we have seen in a game so far from them. They are really developing their rucking, more in control of their body positions and the ball."
