The Devon Football League season is drawing to a close and Ottery St Mary can be increasingly satisfied with their performances in the North & East Division.

With two games left to play, the Otters sit happily in mid-table and served up another afternoon of entertainment on the Easter weekend, as they shared a tremendous 3-3 draw with Thorverton.

The Ottery goals were scored by Riki Pitter, Jake Boyland and Jake Williams, his first for the club in a display that earned him the Man of the Match award.

Ottery conclude their DFL campaign with a visit from Topsham Town on April 29 and then a trip to Barnstaple Town Reserves on May 13.

In the South-West Peninsula League, Sidmouth Town travelled to Honiton on Good Friday and the East Devon rivals treated everyone at Mountbatten Park to one of the games of the season.

The Vikings started strong and unloaded a barrage of corners on the home side, who not only survived, but also had the cheek to go up the other end and open the scoring.

Ben Ede hit a swerving drive for Honiton and, despite Ash Smith making a super save, Aaron Pearse was in the right place to convert the rebound. Sidmouth responded with a spell of dominance, Louis Jagger Cane twice forcing home custodian Jake Wrexford into good blocks.

While the Vikings were controlling large periods of the game, Honiton were the more clinical outfit and they doubled the lead when Ede curled a beautiful second into the top corner.

Sidmouth finally got the goal their performance deserved when Jagger Cane released Ash Small for a composed finish. Moments later, the Vikings were level, Small returning the favour with an assist for Jagger Cane.

The turnaround was complete on the stroke of half-time, as Jagger Cane nipped in front of his marker to glance Sidmouth in front, 3-2. The Vikings were given a further boost when home ‘keeper Wrexford was dismissed for a professional foul.

Honiton, however, found something to respond and when Sidmouth goalkeeper Small also saw red for a similar infringement, Joel Jackson equalised for the hosts. Incredibly, the Hippos won it through skipper Dan Savage, and the Vikings were left bemused at losing a game they largely controlled.
