The Rosemullion Competition is played most Thursday afternoons at Sidmouth Bowls Club and is attended by between some 10 / 20 players and brilliantly organised by Sue Clint, writes Carol Smith.

It is available to all lady members and is played in a very friendly but also competitive atmosphere, and mostly a great learning curve for newer members.  The format is three sets of five ends and two point for each set won.

On the road, Sidmouth men made the long trip to Westward Ho! to play a rearranged game against Kingsley BC in the County Trophy Over 60s League.

For a rather depleted team, some of them did very well with a couple of players not having played in this league before.

The away rink of Malcolm Smith, Ron Peppin, Clive Brook and skip Don Smith had a great win of 31 - 19 . The home rink of John Richards, Chris Ward, John Chew and skip David Timms had a slightly better score of 26 - 13.  Sadly, the second home and away rinks had bad losses, so the aggregate score was Sidmouth 78 Kingsley 86.

Finishing the week with a couple of home friendly fixtures, the first against Bovey Tracey. Sidmouth were a tad too friendly with Bovey winning on two of the three rinks and overall 49 - 39. Sidmouth’s only winning rink of Chris Radburn, Ron Peppin and skip Don Smith had a good score of 18 – 10.

Our next friendly was against our neighbours from Madeira in Exmouth. It was so good to see several of our newer members joining in and well done to Janet Barton, Nickie Stenning, Drew Preece and Janet and Jon Higgins for participating.

Sidmouth won on all three rinks and with an overall score of 59 - 35. Our top rink was Bert Hague, Janet Barton, Nicki Stenning and skip Paul Irvine with a great score of 22 - 8. The rink of Jon Higgins, Drew Preece, Sheila Faulkner and skip Don Smith, after 17 ends, were level at 17 all. So, into the final end, and a great result with Sidmouth scoring three shots to give them the result of 20 - 17 and a hat-trick for the club.
