The dream of a first ever County Cup Final for Lympstone AFC sadly ended in the cruel pain of a penalty shoot-out, as they lost out to Newton Abbot Spurs 2nds in the Devon Senior Cup following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

The Lympets twice fought back to force the game to the lottery of penalties but their luck run out, as Spurs held their nerve to book a place in the final against Paignton Saints.

In the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League, Alphington are a point behind leaders Kentisbeare after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sidmouth Town 2nds, opening the door for Colyton to close the gap to four points following a 4-1 win over Lapford.

Winkleigh, however, could be the danger side. They beat Upottery 4-1 to remain unbeaten at home and sit five points behind the leaders with three games in hand.

In Division One, St Martins just about maintained their 100% record with a tight 1-0 victory over Newton St Cyres. Exter University 2nds are chasing hard after a comfortable 4-0 win over Bow AAC.

Just one game survived in Division Two but it was a big one down the bottom, as Tedburn St Mary pulled away from danger with a 2-1 success at Feniton 2nds, who remain at the foot of the table.

Division Three leaders Witheridge suffered a 4-2 defeat at Broadclyst, a result that moved the home side to within a point of the side they are chasing. Sidmouth Town 2nds missed the chance to open a gap on the bottom two as they were beaten 2-1 by University 5ths.

Bickleigh maintained their 100% home record at the top of Division Four with a 3-1 win over Honiton Town 2nds, while victories for University 6ths and Chagford kept them in the title hunt.

It was a great day for the bottom two in Division Five, Exeter United beat Upottery 2nds 4-1 and Tops United triumphed 1-0 at Awliscombe. Witheridge 2nds beat Sandford 2nds 3-0 in the only game played in Division Six.

Uplowman United cemented their lead at the top of Division Seven with a 10-1 trouncing of Newton St Cyres 2nds and Alphington 3rds thrashed Bow 2nds 9-0 in Division Eight.
