Calligraphy exhibition and classes at Kennaway House, Sidmouth
PUBLISHED: 14:00 03 October 2019
An exhibition of calligraphy is on display at Kennaway House in Sidmouth until the end of this week.
The Exeter Letterers Calligraphy Group is showing a wide variety of its members' work.
It comes as a series of calligraphy classes begins, also at Kennaway House, on Thursday, October 3.
The ancient art form is enjoying a revival lately.
Researchers have found that the practice of slow, controlled handwriting can combat anxiety and improve mental wellbeing.
Jill Newton, from Exeter Letterers, said it is surprisingly popular among young people.
"When they get their hands on pen, ink and paper, they are hooked," she said.
"They switch off from checking their electronic devices and focus on the mindfulness of forming letters."
There will be a chance to try calligraphy at the exhibition, which is open 10am-5pm every day until Sunday, October 6, when it will close at 3pm.
Visit the Kennaway House websitefor details of the calligraphy classes and the exhibition.
