MADAM - How true the letters (Herald October 24) are by Messrs Woodyard and Walkden regarding the Byes cycleway.
Money is flowing in torrents out of Devon County Council (and, apparently, many other county councils) on these idiotic, crackpot, shared pedestrian/cycle paths. Cycles are wheeled vehicles, potentially lethal to pedestrians and animals, and must be 100 per cent restricted to the roads (which are provided, at great expense, for wheeled vehicles) when being ridden.
Even now there are well-used roads in Sidmouth which haven't even got a pavement (Alexandria Road, Cotmaton Road, Fortescue Road and Sid Road) all used as 'rat runs' by speeding traffic, yet huge amounts of money are frittered away on barmy projects.
