A local councillor “suggested” that Devon County Council should remove the small signs, indicating opposition to the possible development of an unnecessary quarry at Straitgate in Ottery St. Mary.

Apparently, he thought that these were a potential distraction to motorists and they were duly removed.

I am puzzled because signs, including larger ones advertising the Devon County Show and others, promoting craft fairs and plant sales, remained in place and are still at the side of roads in our area.

However, if the councillor is genuinely concerned about road safety, I look forward to his opposing the movement of an extra 100 heavy truck movements, each day, on the busy and inadequate B3180, if the ludicrous plan to develop the quarry is approved.
