My letter about the Neil Cox “sporting art” exhibition clearly ruffled a few feathers.
To clarify: the feature in this paper clearly stated that “a range of sporting guns” would be on display on preview night. I wasn’t there to verify this, but, if true, I find it most offensive. It also advertised the event as having a “country sporting theme”. I would be only too pleased to hear a statement to the contrary from Kennaway House.
I was not in any way criticising the works on display - art is free to depict whatever subject it chooses - but only the use of the event to promote blood sports. After all, if the paintings were simply “glorifying the beauty of nature and wildlife”, I should like to know what interest the Sportsman Gun Centre had in sponsoring the event?
