SIR – Last year (Sidmouth Herald, August 13), I wrote with concern about the spread of Japanese knotweed along the lower reaches of the Sid.
Sadly, despite the poisoning efforts of the council, the weed is busy re-establishing itself.
The process is helped by the trimmings let fall by gardeners along the river.
Of continuing concern is the unchecked growth further up the river.
Visit the land between the Sidford sports fields and the river and see for yourself. Local landowners are committing an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
Perhaps this letter will remind them of their responsibilities.
