SIR - I enjoyed reading your story about people who live in our wonderful district earning more than those elsewhere in the county. It is interesting to see that people here earn on average £21,900 while those in other areas earn less. However, does that average pay, allow people to lead to full life? Can people who earn much less than the average afford to eat good food and enjoy their free time? Can people like myself, who survive on a fairly pitiful state pension, really enjoy their retirement after contributing to society for long hours over many years? It's all very well saying we earn more than people in other parts of the county, but we still have less money coming in than other parts of the UK. And what's more the cost of living here is so expensive because of all the wealthy so-and-so's from London coming down, buying our affordable homes and frittering away their huge City bonuses in our shops and driving up prices.Maybe our political leaders should think about the fairness of all this - perhaps they should encourage new businesses into the area. They might help to drive up wages and therefore improve the quality of living. If not, there's always Communism...Charlotte ArrowsmithSidmouth
