SIR - I am writing in response to the moving article in last week’s Sidmouth Herald highlighting the possible loss of Stowford Lodge as provider of respite services for sufferers of Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
As pointed out in Peter Atkinson’s letter (Day Centre fear) it also seems so ironic that all focus is now on constructing the nearby Stowford Community Centre.
Sidmouth badly needs both these facilities, so please let’s do all we can to safeguard the services offered by Stowford Lodge, keeping in mind that cases of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are increasing at an alarming rate and is a problem to be tackled not ignored.
