The original building dates from the early 1700s and throughout its life has played a significant part in the fabric of the town. Starting as an impressive private dwelling it then functioned as an independent school and became the Kings Grammar School in the years leading up to the Great War. During the First World War it was home to the Ottery branch of the Royal British Legion before adapting again to become the town’s police station and later, a Care Home.
