SIR - Following Roger Simmonds’ report of the Musical Comedy Society’s production of ‘Cabaret’ and the extensive photographs published last week, I feel moved to add my congratulations to Jacqueline Self, administrator and production co-ordinator, for finding the first-rate director, choreographer and musical director, thus turning around the fortunes of this long-established group.

This production was West End standard, with some cracking individual performances not only from Alec Fellows-Bennett and Alicia Highley, brilliant as they were, but from the entire cast and orchestra.

No wonder that on the two final nights of the run at the Manor Pavilion the management had to turn away patrons because the house was sold out. For a town of this size, it is quite remarkable to find two groups of such quality, bearing in mind the Sidmouth Arts Club Operatic Society as well, who gave us a splendid `Half a Sixpence’ a few weeks ago. Best wishes to them both!
