With so much emphasis being placed on reducing the number of plastic bags we use, why do so many shopkeepers/assistants persist in enquiring ‘Do you want a bag?’, even when I am carrying a very visible, large shopping bag and may be purchasing only one item – even a newspaper?
Surely most people can be expected to have the gumption to ask for a bag if they really need one.
