CHILDREN at Ottery's Coleridge Playgroup were smiling last week after a £1000 funding boost landed them brand-new play equipment. Devon County Council handed over the cash as part of its early years and childcare services programme and the Jesu Street playgroup didn't hesitate in splashing it on a range of goods for youngsters including an outdoor playhouse and climbing equipment.

Manager Sue Scott said: "It's always nice to get money- with bills going up there is less available for equipment. This was a lovely surprise. The children are thoroughly using the equipment already and loving every minute.
