A FUNDRAISING effort that turned Sidbury village hall into a 1950s American diner for a night raised £1,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

The fancy-dress event on April 12 – with burgers, fries and milkshakes – saw more than 80 revellers learn to jive with professional dance teacher Lorraine Booker.

It was organised by Tabi Belither, Liz Belither and Polly Nelson as part of their effort to net sponsorship before they take on the London Moonwalk on May 10.

All three ladies, who have garnered the nickname The Sou’ Westers, have seen friends suffer from breast cancer and want to raise money for Walk the Walk to fund research and treatment.

“A huge effort had gone into 1950s costume and the atmosphere pulsated with enthusiasm and laughter. Burgers, fries, milkshakes and popcorn were enjoyed; most of these were provided by local businesses who also supplied raffle prizes, so huge thanks to all of them,” said Liz.

She, Tabi and Polly thanked all those who attended the event.
