A DOWNPOUR in Branscombe last week resulted in the flooding of a bridge and several roads.
The road next to the Village Hall was hidden with three inches of rain water and some cars passing through Branscombe refused to go into the flooded road and turned around.
Ralph Cox, a Branscombe resident, believes the situation would have been much worse if it had not been for a drain recently installed by the county's Highway Service.
He said: The drain was installed a couple of months ago to stop any flooding.
It obviously worked a little bit as if it hadn't been there it would've been many more inches deep."
Rosemary Pavey, who lives opposite the Village hall, said: I'd gone out on Friday morning and when I came back it was raining harder and you couldn't even see the white lines on the road.
All of the rain ran down the village on the road and passed the hall next to where the gutter is.
By the time it had collected and got down here, it flooded Mill Lane.
The water was coming over the bridge next to the hall and the gutter was so full that water was actually coming out of it rather than going in."
