YOUNG Alfie Weaver is preparing to take centre stage at the opening of the Exeter Festival on Friday. But the 11-year-old from Temple Street, Sidmouth is taking it all in his stride according to dad Philip. Alfie, a pupil at St Nicholas Junior School has been performing with the Devon County Junior Choir for just two months but has already been offered the chance to sing at the festival launch at Exeter Cathedral. He will be performing with the rest of the choir, but if technology allows and organisers can find a solo microphone, he will be performing a solo. Mr Weaver said Alfie was hoping to sing the first verse The Lord is my Shepherd. "He is a confident performer", Mr Weaver said. "he had been with the choir for two months and on his third rehearsal, they asked if he would be willing to do the solo, which was quite suprising. "He does take it in his stride, he doesn't seem to be nervous, but I know he is excited about it." If the solo does happen, it will put Alfie on one of the biggest stages in Devon, but it will not be his first time in the limelight. He was in the Oliver show at the Manor Pavilion two years ago and has also performed with St Nick's choir in the past. "We are very proud, we are going to try to catch him on video in case he becomes famous one day, Mr Weaver added. "Ever since he was young he has performed little shows for us, he has always been into his music.
