The lovely village setting that is Salcombe Regis worked its magic once again last week when the rain held off and the crowds came out to make the Country Fair another fund-raising winner. It was entirely appropriate, therefore, that a church notice to parishioners on Sunday sent out a message of thanks to everyone concerned."Space does not permit a 'Thank You' big enough to encompass all the good folk and local organisations who rallied to the cause so nobly," it said. "From the organising committee, there most assuredly comes a loud and most sincere cry of 'Thank you very much indeed'."Fully aware, as we all were, of the appalling weather immediately prior to the fair, we must be eternally thankful for an afternoon of comparatively fine weather and for the goodly numbers who came to support us."The fair raised a magnificent £7,079 which, after expenses have been deducted, will be shared between the parish church and the Sidmouth charity Living With Cancer, whose members worked so hard selling grand draw tickets both before and during the Fair.Committee anchorman Mike Newman was delighted with the result."We are especially grateful to the villagers who make room for stalls and for all who give so generously and turn up to help," he said. "Our fair has a wonderful community feel about it and this year was no exception.
