The local charitable fund, Sidmouth Consolidated Charities, (SCC), has announced that it will be supporting local schools with the provision of computers to children during the lockdown. Grants totalling £12,500 have been made to Sidbury School, Sidmouth Primary, and Sidmouth College.
SCC operates two funds, one of which is to provide educational assistance to adults and children who are in need and live in the Sid Valley. Another larger fund helps with more general needs for those who are disadvantaged.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “One of the advantages of operating a charity within a small community like Sidmouth is that we are able to make decisions and deliver assistance very speedily. It is clear that the pandemic and ensuing lockdown represented a situation that required immediate action, so we were happy to step in and fund the purchase of some new computers for our schools.
We have recently benefited from a legacy where the intention was to help young people, so this is an excellent way of spending some of the money we received with that bequest.
Our charity goes back approximately 800 years and is an amalgamation of a large number of bequests made by individuals over the centuries. We continue to regularly receive donations and legacies and these are always used to support those in need within the community of Sidmouth. The need to help our school children during this crisis was obvious, so we are very pleased to provide our schools with these grants.’’
