Artist stressed the importance of using shadow and shades of the same colour to create a unified painting
There was a buzz in the room at Kennaway House prior to James Tatum beginning the last demonstration of the year for the Sidmouth Society of Artists, and they were not disappointed.
James explained that he would not be aiming to finish a painting but he would demonstrate two landscapes.
He suggested that often people painted two pictures within one painting, and he would be trying to demonstrate the importance of tying the two together to ensure unification of the completed work.
Ann England, a member of the society, said: “He is very spontaneous when he works. Using very large brushes, 300lb paper and acrylics he produced first a landscape of a woodland in Exeter, and the second painting based on a rustic scene on Dartmoor.
“He stressed the importance of using shadow and including shades of a particular colour paint throughout a painting to bring everything together.
“The afternoon was very well attended and enjoyed by everyone who found it not only very informative but really interesting!! Roll on a workshop.”
