Kindhearted youngsters are hoping to give a little extra to those in need this Christmas with their own fundraising toy event.

Santa’s little helpers Elliose, Oliver, Jack and Lucia Trebble-Sergent have been collecting toys to sell and give away at ‘Kidmas’ as they want to help other children have the perfect Christmas.

The youngsters have received bags upon bags of toys from generous donors who have heard about their work, ahead of the event next Sunday (November 18) at The Station from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

The family have been working with Ottery and Honiton food banks who have handed out vouchers to users to come to the event and claim a free toy.

Anyone with a voucher will also be entered into a free raffle to win prizes provided by Ottery businesses, including a Christmas tree and vouchers from K&M Butchers.

Mum Vicki said: “They decided they wanted to do something to help people this year.

“I went through the different ways they could help people and they decided to help children who live nearby that couldn’t have a perfect Christmas.

“They have been collecting new and as new toys so that families of all situations can have an easier Christmas - more fun, less debt.

“We know Christmas is a hard time for everyone, but people have been going to the shops and buying new toys and donating, we did not expect to have that.

“Everyone can come to get cheap toys, that’s the idea and all of the money raised will go to Ottery Food Bank.”

To raise awareness of the event, the children have given presentation at their primary schools in Tipton and Kentisbeare and visited other schools to tell them about their idea.

Jack, who is 10 and twin brother to Oliver, said: “I want to be a medic when I am older and I want to help people and do not want people feeling sad, I just love seeing people happy and laughing.”

His elder sister Elliose, 10, said: “I like to give people a little extra at Christmas.”

Lucia, seven, added: “I did it because I like seeing people happy and having a better Christmas.”

There is still time to donate by dropping toys into the collection points are at Ottery Library, Roberts and Knights Farm.
