Sidmouth Lions have raised £300 to support the country’s only charity helping people living with a chronic neuromuscular disease.

Members presented a cheque to Myaware which supports people affected by myasthenia last week.

The money will help people suffering with the disease, which causes weakness in the skeletal muscles responsible for breathing and moving parts of the body such as the arms and legs.

The Lions handed over the £300 at Kennaway House to the Devon group of Myaware.

Rita Goldthrop, regional organiser in the South West, said: “This donation really means such a lot to our local members and we are very grateful to the Lions club for their support.”

The Devon group will also be meeting on June 21 at Kennaway House at 1.30pm and has invited anyone who is affected by myasthenia to attend.

There will be hot drinks and light refreshments.

Information packs are available from the charity’s head office on 01332 290219.
