A conservation charity is running a competition to find the best churchyard in the county.
The Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) wants to highlight the way historic churches play a key role in rural life. Many will have remained unchanged for a thousand years.
Director Penny Mills said: “We have already had entries from East Devon but there’s still time to enter.
“If you are proud of your churchyard and those who work in it, then please consider entering.”
The final deadline for the competition is Monday April 30. It aims to recognise that churchyards provide a haven for people and wildlife. Judges will be looking for places that encourage and sustain wildlife and have volunteers who help to make it a welcoming place.
Entries from all denominations are encouraged.
Entry forms are available from www.cpredevon.org.uk. Entries are free and the winner, to be announced in September, will receive £200.
