A section of an East Devon A-road which was damaged by a coach blaze will now be repaired overnight this Sunday (March 25).

The A30 near Ottery St Mary will be shut westbound between Langford junction and Daisymount junction from 5pm Sunday afternoon to 6am the following morning.

It has been nearly two weeks since a coach was destroyed in a blaze near Ottery St Mary on March 10, causing chaos on the busy A-road as both lanes were closed.

A section of one westbound lane on the A30 has been closed since.

Repairs were supposed to have taken place overnight on March 22, but Highways England says a band of rain meant work could not be carried out.

A spokesman added: “The recent coach fire on the A30 westbound near Daisymount caused extensive damage to the concrete surface and drainage system that meant that lane one was unsafe to reopen.

“We are actively undertaking repairs but have been hampered by adverse weather conditions, including snow and rain in the past week.

“We are now hoping to complete a temporary repair this weekend, again weather permitting, in order to have two lanes open for the Easter holidays.

“This will now mean an overnight closure of the A30 westbound between the Langford Junction and the Daisymount Junction.

“A diversion will be in place from the Langford Junction via the A35, the A375, A3052 and B3180 to rejoin the A30 at the Daisymount Junction.

“A permanent repair will be scheduled as soon as possible and in the meantime, we thank people for their patience while we attempt to complete this work.”
