Six special events and 17 organisations are set to receive grants from Sidmouth Town Council totalling more than £15,500 this year.

Civic leaders have also provisionally allocated £5,000 ‘in principle’ to be shared between the walking festival, carnival, Sea Fest, literary festival, regatta and science festival in 2019/20.

The grants for the 2018/19 financial year are as follows:

• Sidmouth & East Devon Walking Festival – £800 (and provisionally the same amount in 2019/20)

• Sidmouth Carnival – £500 (and provisionally the same amount in 2019/20)

• Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub CIC (Sea Fest) – £750 (and provisionally the same amount in 2019/20)

• Sidmouth Literary Festival – £500

• Sidmouth Regatta – £1,000 (and provisionally the same amount in 2019/20)

• Sidmouth Science Festival – £2,000 (and provisionally the same amount in 2019/20)

• Apple Tree Pre-school – £200

• Citizens Advice East Devon – £2,000

• East Devon Support Group (Parkinson’s UK) – £500

• Friends of The Byes – £400

• Relate Exeter & District – £250

• Revitalise Respite Holidays – £708

• Sidbury Primary School PTFA – £570

• Sid Valley Memory Café – £500

• Sid Valley Radio – £250

• Sidmouth Amateur Radio Society – £500

• Sidmouth Arboretum – £1,500

• Sidmouth Day Care Nursery – £200

• Sidmouth Hot Cross Bun Fund – £100

• Sidmouth Parish Church (clock) – £50

• Sidmouth Sailing Club – £1,000

• Sidmouth Steppers – £400

• Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club – £900

The total comes to £15,578, up from £15,100 last year.

The groups all applied to Sidmouth Town Council for support. Cheques will be presented at its annual assembly in the coming months.

Sidmouth in Bloom was traditionally supported with a grant but this year councillors created a £3,000 allocation in the main budget in recognition of the ‘fantastic’ work it does.
