Sidmouth College students pitched in creating a huge collaborative community art installation that will be displayed at Sea Fest tomorrow (Saturday).
Coco Hodgkinson’s Plenty More Fish in the Sea is about connecting everyone to the ocean and the coast.
It has also seen youngsters at other Devon schools help to craft and paint more than 100 papier-mâché fish that will be hung from the main Ham Marquee.
The community festival, now in its fourth year, will bring coastal groups, local food and a host of activities and entertainment to celebrate the town’s seaside location together.
The day-long celebration starts at 10am with hands-on activities, a sea-themed ‘Cake Off ’ competition, fish filleting and cooking demonstrations, storytelling and games. Daytime events are free.
The ticketed evening event, a variety night in the Ham Marquee from 7pm to 11pm, includes the premiere of Working the Sea – a film about Sidmouth’s fishing heritage and how people of all ages connect, use and enjoy it today.
Speaking of the 40-minute feature, Louise Cole, one of the Sea Fest organisers, said: “It is an unmissable delight – Sidmouth is stunning and there are so many local people involved in the film. It’s fabulous.”
Another film, Creativity on the Coast, will also have its premiere, and and Sid Vale Productions will take to the stage with their smugglers play, Jack Rattenbury of Beer.
Tickets for the evening event are available from Everys, Paragon Books and Sidmouth Trawlers, and online at www.eventbrite.com/e/sidmouth-sea-fest-variety-night-2017-tickets-33941273262.
