Beer’s annual bake off hit its ‘highest standards’ yet, with more entries than ever before.
Competitors were tasked with baking a creation that represented the village, stood at least two tiers tall and feature a decorative seagull.
Crowds packed into the Dolphin Hotel last month to see which of the seven creative bakes triumphed.
Judge Michael West tasted a range of entries shaped like Beer landmarks, including ‘Peco Drama’ – a steam train with a splatted seagull, Beer Fish Shop, Beer Scout campsite and the Mariners Hall complete with Christmas trimmings.
Andy Williams, the founder of the competition, said: “The standard of the competition is so wonderful high for something that started as a bit of a laugh. We never thought it would get this big.”
Nigel Groves was named the winner and received a trophy and £50 voucher from Woozies Deli.
Nigel said: “I was very surprised and please to win this year. Its only the second time I have decorated a cake, the first time was last years post box when I came third.”
