Candidates aged 10 to 80 made their commitment to Jesus Christ and the church before the Bishop of Exeter at Sidmouth Parish Church on Sunday.
The Right Reverend Robert Atwell confirmed seven members of the congregation and a convert from the Roman Catholic Church.
The group included an artist who is a retired teacher, a retired infants’ school headteacher, a newsagent’s assistant and a former accountant.
A confirmation service provides the opportunity for children and adults to make a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to the Church – often many years after their baptism, when the promises were made by their parents and godparents.
The bishop prayed for each candidate, which was followed by the congregation joining him in prayer for God’s Holy Spirit to enter the life of the confirmation candidate in a new way.
