Plans to alter the access and frontage of an historic former town centre grocers have been given the go-ahead – paving the way for a café chain to move in.

Coffee #1 set its sights on the ground floor of what was Trumps, a 200-year-old business that closed in September 2014. It now has planning permission to alter the shopfront, install a ramped access and provide a new access in Cross Lane.

The chain can also make internal alterations to the Grade II listed property, including a new staircase and partitions.

A spokesman for the business said last month it hopes to be in by February.
