A group of travellers, who have been camped on the Millennium Green for the past six days, have been told to leave the site.
Seven caravans and several other vehicles arrived at the field, which is home to the fairground during Tar Barrels, shortly after 10pm Saturday (August 8).
Owners of the plot yesterday served the group with an eviction notice, giving them until 11am tomorrow (Saturday) to move on.
Speaking yesterday (Thursday), mayor Glyn Dobson, who serves as the town council’s representative on Millennium Green trustees group, said: “We have just been down there with the local police and we have issued an eviction notice.”
“We’ve given them 48 hours, which I think is quite fair.”
