Celestial phenomenon in pictures
John Lort captured these images of the solar eclipse over Sidmouth from the roof of The Loft.
Parts of the world have been witnessing the rare occurance this morning – a phenomenon in which the sun is obscured by the moon.
The solar eclipse started at around 8.45am and is due to last for a few hours. Most of it will go unnoticed because its path falls over the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.
It started in Greenland and has moved counterclockwise towards the northeast, passing over Iceland and the UK.
