A massive crowd gathered on Sidmouth seafront to stare at the surf on Saturday, but it wasn’t an emergency – it was a celebration.
Dozens of youngsters watched as the town council officially presented the Sidmouth Junior Surf Life Saving Club with their new Arches HQ.
They then jumped in with both feet to treat their benefactors to a demonstration of their rescuing prowess.
The handover came just a week after the club took home nine gold, 10 silver and three bronze medals from the Devon championships in Exmouth; their first competition.
