TOWN centre businesses have been warned they face disruption when three weeks of ‘essential footway works’ are carried out in Fore Street and High Street.
South West Highways Ltd (SWH) has written to traders to say it will be undertaking the maintenance project on behalf of Devon County Council – starting today (Friday, April 19).
Work, which will take place between 7.30am and 5pm, will lead to parking restrictions and dust, it has been warned.
“Unfortunately, this is unavoidable, and we recommend that windows and doors are kept closed as much as practicable, and vehicles parked away from the working area,” Patricia Ferguson, SWH community liaison officer, told Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce.
A letter to affected traders adds: “We will try to maintain access to your property at all times and keep any inconvenience to you to a minimum. However, some interruption may be unavoidable and, for this, we apologise in advance.”
