A yoga teacher more used to London than Sidmouth did not expect to see her purse again when it went missing - but traced it back to a town café.

Gwendoline Odeluga now wants to treat the good Samaritan who handed it in to a cuppa.

Gwendoline moved to Sidmouth from the capital eight years ago, but still has a ‘London mentality’ and thought it best to cancel her credit cards.

She did not notice her purse was missing for 24 hours and did not think she would see it again, but found it had been handed in at the Clock Tower Café.

Gwendoline, who takes yoga classes at Kennaway House, said: “I want to say thank you and if the person who handed it in wants to come forward I will buy them a cup of tea and a cake.

“I thought to myself, don’t get your hopes up – but nothing had been taken.

“There wasn’t much in it, but it’s the little things you can’t replace.”

She said it seemed only fair to meet the good Samaritan back at the Clock Tower Café after the staff looked after her purse.

A wallet with £800 was once handed in there, and when it went unclaimed, the money was donated to Devon Air Ambulance.

Gwendoline asked for whoever handed in her purse to contact the Herald on 01392 888502.
