WHEELBARROW: The green-fingered skills of Sidmouth College students will be on display in the plant marquee at Devon County Show this year.

Students are on the hunt for an old, disused wheelbarrow to take part in this year’s theme: A Garden in A Wheelbarrow. Students must design, grow and plant a garden in this limited space. Anyone able to donate a wheelbarrow should contact the college on 01395 514823 and arrangements will be made to collect it.

HART: The special operations team, based at Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Services’ HQ, Exeter, have been working with the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics who are fully trained in the skills they will require to enter the ‘Hot Zone’ of an incident beside fire and rescue crews and administer advanced medical care.

Yesterday, Thursday, HART went live in the South West. Having HART trained paramedics means potentially lives will be saved by assessing causalities as early as possible at the centre of the incident. Previously, casualties would have been brought out to waiting ambulance personnel by fire crews before treatment could begin.
