Sidmouth Town Football Club members plan fund raising events to pay for royal fun day

AFTER the success of the royal wedding fun event at Manstone Football Club last August, Di Collings and friends from Sidmouth Town Football Club are planning a similar knees up to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Di, of Arcot Park, Sidmouth, said the club and grounds are booked for Monday, June 4, one of the bank holiday days planned to celebrate the monarch’s 60 years on the throne.

The committee of 12 club members plan a Sidmouth’s Got Talent show, a Tea Dance for older residents, a bouncy castle for youngsters and much more in the way of food and fun, including, hopefully, a treasure hunt.

What’s more, Di, who runs a food outlet at Knowle for district council staff, hopes all but the refreshments will be free.

To that end the committee has organised a number of fund raising events leading up to June at the football club.

The first, on Sunday, February 5, is a quiz night at 8pm. This will be followed on Saturday, March 17, by a jumble sale, starting at 10am. Anyone with jumble/donations to offer should call Di on 019395 514392.

It will be eyes down for bingo at the club on Friday, April 6 from 8pm, followed by a car boot sale from 10am on Sunday, May 6.

Di’s daughter, Emma Adam, said: “Because last year’s event was such a success we wanted to put on something with the jubilee coming up.

“We need to raise 1,000 so that people who come along on the day don’t have to pay for things like the bouncy castle.”

Mum Di added: “We have put 120, the proceeds from last year’s event, into the kitty and will be having a prize draw on the day.

“We want a community event and decided on the Monday as we hope it won’t clash with anyone else’s plans.”
