VALENTINES Day will see a host of hopeful Top Tossers descend on Old Fore Street for Sidmouth’s third annual Pancake Races on Tuesday.

The popular event, organised by the Sid Valley Rotary Club, gives townsfolk young and old the chance to compete for glory.

Cash raised will go to a campaign to wipe out polio.

Would-be adult participants have their last chance to sign up a team today – but children can just turn up to take part.

The races will again be held in Old Fore Street by the Anchor Inn, from 1pm to 2pm.

Races for younger competitors will be held between 12.30pm and 1pm.

Spectators have been urged to cheer on those taking part.

A team from Dukes, crowned Top Tossers two years on the trot, will return to defend their title.

“We’ll try our best to fit in any young people who turn up on the day with their frying pan,” said Sid Valley Rotarian Dr John Rees.

Pancakes are provided but adults taking part must bring their own pans. Youngsters will be provided with pans if necessary.

The races raise money for Rotary’s international campaign, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, to finally eliminate polio from the world.
