Operation Christmas Child prepares for busiest day of the year
PEOPLE in Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary and other towns in Devon are busy wrapping Christmas gift-filled shoe boxes for this year’s Operation Christmas Child.
The charity, which delivers Christmas gifts to vulnerable children in more than 12 countries around the world, will have its busiest day on Friday, November 18, as this is the final date for donors to hand in their filled boxes.
Last year more than a million shoe boxes were sent from the UK and this year the charity has asked for a sports item to be included in each box to mark the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012.
If people miss the November 18 deadline they can go online to www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk after that date to pick items to go into a shoe box and pay online.
“All donors can be sure that their shoe box will be hugely appreciated by the child who receives it – every single shoe box really does make a positive difference,” said the charity’s Devon regional manager Roger Fenton.
